For Oppos in Massachusetts, this is to encourage you to vote yes on Question 1. Question 1 extends our existing right to repair law to ensure that independent shops and vehicle owners will be able to have access vehicle data:
A “yes” vote supports requiring manufacturers that sell vehicles with telematics systems in Massachusetts to equip them with a standardized open data platform beginning with model year 2022 that vehicle owners and independent repair facilities may access to retrieve mechanical data and run diagnostics through a mobile-based application.
This is of course a very good idea, especially for car people. It is heavily opposed by the auto industry, which has contributed millions to stop it, and have been making fairly absurd arguments about it being a safety issue (see Jalopnik mocking a no on 1 add here: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! )
In any event, if you are in the Bay State, please vote yes on question 1. You can also visit !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for more info, or to get a sign.

As long as we are here, please consider voting yes on 2 as well.
This is not car related, but as the imagine says, question 2 would establish ranked choice voting in primary and general elections for most offices other than president (where it would create some weirdness). This is a good thing. Ranked choice voting ensures broader support for elected officials, diminishes the chance of radicals with a small but fervent base being elected, and allows voters to vote for their top choice without fear that doing so will help a loathsome candidate be elected.
A “
yes
” vote
supports
enacting ranked-choice voting (RCV) for primary and general elections for state executive officials, state legislators, federal congressional and senate seats, and certain county offices beginning in 2022.
Here’s the Yes on 2 site:

Ranked choice voting is also on the ballot in Alaska this year, so I wish our friends on the Last Frontier well in their efforts.

That’s it for ballot questions and most of my local candidates were unopposed (and yours would be different anyway). Obviously we have the president (I’m voting Biden) and the Senate (Markey). You’ll have your House race as well, but you’re in a different district than me.

must be nice to only have two questions! Meanwhile in California figuring out what the hell all 10 of these propositions mean is taxing. Its like a full time job trying to determine how to vote and making sure to read past the marketing bullshit to find the actual truth about each thing.

Voting Markey, and for the Green party. Voting for Biden in MA is useless, he’s going to win the state
. I’d rather have my vote be
impactful
so that one day we can have a third party. I’m also voting Yes on 1 and 2.

I don’t know. Probably you don’t want to be like California and cripple your legislature so that ballot initiatives are the most effective way to get things done, but they do provide some recourse against a government that is sometimes captured by special interests.

I suppose. I think that it, like so many of your political processes (elected sherrifs and judges?) have some merit and some drawbacks.

Does Question 1 apply only to vehicles? One could make a case to extend it to all products sold to natural persons.

This one is just for passenger vehicles. I’d like to see broader right to repair laws as well, but this is what’s on the ballot.

Arizona has a pretty robust referendum law (sounds like MA does as well) . Residents can propose new laws, recall elected officials and veto unwanted laws. Lobbyist and legislators are pretty opposed to it, but it is not going anywhere. Our state chamber of commerce opposes pretty much every voter referendum, regardless of what it aims to do.

Yeah, Biden vote isn’t that meaningful here, but still seems the thing to do to me. Of course if we had ranked choice voting for president, I probably would rank Hawkins above Biden.

We should all have ranked choice voting for every elected office. If I lived in mass. I'd vote exactly as you say.
